Seeking authors

ACEN is seeking Expressions of Interest from authors to write a chapter for the publication Theories, Practices and Research in Work-integrated learning in Australia: Enhancing employability capabilities for a sustainable future(edited by Sonia Ferns, Anna Rowe and Karsten Zegwaard).

The book is a peer-reviewed collection of scholarly chapters from researchers, practitioners and experts in WIL. All chapters must be informed by the latest cutting-edge research and written in language accessible to a wide audience.

Objectives

The objectives of this publication are to:

  • reflect on the work done so far;
  • critically discuss leading views of the area; and
  • make recommendations to guide future research and practice.

The publication aims to:

  • raise the profile of WIL;
  • review, critique and integrate existing research and scholarship; and
  • offer recommendations for future work.

Key themes include diversity, sustainability, innovation, economic well-being and employability.

To contribute to the book, please submit an Expression of Interest here by 31 May 2019.

Expressions of Interest will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Author/s commitment to, and experience in WIL.
  • Focus, cohesiveness and sequence of narrative.
  • Advances WIL research and scholarship.
  • Proposes a clear framework.
  • Aligns with the aim of the book.
  • Writing is of a high academic standard.
  • Informs future directions of WIL.

This survey aims to build a better understanding of current sexual and reproductive health awareness and practices among education providers, organisations and agents providing services to international students.

This includes the frequency, type of information, services and resources used, as well as ways to improve information and services.

Participation involves completing a 15-20 minute online survey. You do not need to provide any identifying details.

All information provided will remain anonymous and confidential.

We invite you to promote the following survey to your international students who are over 16 yo.

Are you on a student visa, aged 16 years or older and studying in Sydney? We want to hear your thoughts and experiences of sexual and reproductive health information and services by participating in a survey (available in several languages which involves completing a 15 minute online survey.

Stay Safe in our State – Advice for International Students

NSW Police in partnership with the Council of International Students Australia (CISA) completed a Study NSW co-funded Partner Project to create safety videos for international students studying in NSW.

These videos have been well-received by the international education community.

The videos cover topics such as identifying police in NSW, reporting crime, beach safety, alcohol, road safety, domestic and family violence and personal safety.

WA – Harmony Week Debate: Invitation to students.

As part of Harmony Week 2019, the Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) will stage a debate on 21 March to mark theInternational Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The event addresses OMI’s strategic objective of developing intercultural understanding and promoting the benefits of Western Australia’s cultural diversity.

We are currently seeking currently enrolled university students who are interested in engaging with the issues of multiculturalism and diversity. This role entails a 4 – 5 minute speech debating either the affirmative or negative position. Students will be required to commit to a first meeting with OMI staff, a few hours of preparation time to meet and discuss the topic with teammates, and the 2 hours for the event on 21st March 2019. Two teams of three students will debate the topic The Sharpeville massacre could never happen in Western Australia today”.

The audience will be high school students, and the debate will be judged by a panel of academics from each of the universities.

Date: Thursday 21 March 2019

Time: 9.30am – 11.30am

Venue: Subiaco Arts Centre, 180 Hammersley Road Subiaco

Two teams of three students will debate the affirmative and negative positions of the topic. They will be expected to prepare a 4 – 5 minutes speech with the opportunity to rehearse before the event. Speakers will be supported by a team mentor and OMI staff. Students are expected to commit to an initial meeting with OMI; a few hours of preparation time to meet and discuss the topic with teammates; and the 2 hours for the event.

Expected benefits for students include participation in an enjoyable and significant experience and the opportunity to expand their networks. Participants will develop transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, and analytical and research abilities and will receive a letter of acknowledgement from the Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests.

The Australian Human Rights Commission is leading a National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces. Information about the National Inquiry and the full Terms of Reference can be found here.
The Commission would like to invite you or a representative from your organisation to a consultation that focuses specifically on migrant workers and people on temporary visas’ experiences of workplace sexual harassment. We would also be grateful for your assistance to share the details of this consultation with your networks.

Under the law (National Code) education providers must provide access to affordable mental health support services and, students must be told about this at orientation.

All providers should have this info listed on websites or hand books under “student support services” or “health and welfare”. Good providers regularly remind students about these services through various channels.
