Bursaries for 2010

ISANA IS PROVIDING TWO TYPES OF

SUPPORT FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS

IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR ISANA

2010 CONFERENCE

Conference Theme: Engaging with the Wider Community

Conference Dates: 30 November – 3 December, 2010

Two types of support are offered for students in Australia and New Zealand researching in the area of the education, support and well-being of international students. Along with the traditional bursary program we are now introducing an exciting new opportunity for doctoral students who are researching in the area of international education.

1. Doctoral Consortium
A Doctoral Consortium for PhD and other doctoral candidates will be held on Day 3 of the conference. The Doctoral Consortium is a workshop for research students who are in the early to mid phases of their doctoral dissertation work. The purpose of the Consortium is for students to present their research project ideas and to receive feedback from other experts and practitioners in international education.

The goal of the Doctoral Consortium is to provide a forum for postgraduate students to:

  • engage with other students and researchers in international education;
  • provide opportunity for participants to publish a peer reviewed paper;
  • receive feedback and general suggestions in a constructive and engaging manner;
  • provide opportunity for networking with others who work in similar areas, and
  • connect with a community of researchers in international education.

Those who wish to participate in the Doctoral Consortium will need to submit an abstract by 7th May, 2010. Details of expectations about refereed papers at this conference can be found on the conference website and examples of referred papers from previous ISANA Conferences can be found on the ISANA website at www.isana.org.au.

2. ISANA Bursaries
These bursaries are being offered to students undertaking research at the post-graduate level in a university in Australia or New Zealand who are in the later stages of their doctorates or have just completed their theses. Several bursaries will be offered and they will be awarded at the conference dinner. The bursaries will be awarded for a refereed paper authored or co-authored by the doctoral student, presented at the conference, and deemed to be most worthy by the selection panel. Judging will occur after the submission of the papers by July 30. Bursaries will range in value from $A1500.00 to $A500.00. All of the bursaries will be accompanied by a conference registration fee waiver, to allow the recipients to present their papers and receive their awards.

Students who do not receive a bursary are still encouraged to present their paper at the conference as either a refereed or non-refereed paper and/or to be part of the Doctoral Consortium.

Applications for these bursaries can be made by visiting the conference website at www.cdesign.com.au/isana10 and completing the appropriate section. An abstract must be submitted to the conference at the time of application. Applications for these bursaries close on 7 May, 2010. Details of expectations about refereed papers at this conference can be found on the conference website and examples of referred papers from previous ISANA Conferences can be found on the ISANA website at www.isana.org.au
