Advance notice of the 2nd "Enhancing Student Success" Conference To be held at the Central Coast Campus of the University of Newcastle on Friday December 12, 2008 This conference is being held by the University of Newcastle's Student Support Services, in association with ANZSSA (Australian and New Zealand Student Services Association) and the NDCO (National Disability Coordination Officer) Program. The conference theme this year will be 'Working Collaboratively with Students in a Diverse University Environment' and the objective is to bring together student support personnel, academics and administrators to discuss practical strategies to accommodate this diversity and also share research and innovations in this field. In addition, Dr Hamish Coates from the Australian Council for Educational Research will be speaking about the results of the first large-scale survey across Australia and New Zealand on Student Engagement, conducted last year, as well as other research on student engagement that ACER is currently initiating. Brian Smyth-King, Director of Disability Programs, NSW Department of Education and Training, will also be speaking about the Disability Standards for Education and the implications of these for higher education practitioners. A closing address will be provided by Professor Sally Kift from QUT who is well-known for her excellent research into First-Year Experience issues, and for her entertaining and informative presentations. |
