National Code: Empowering International Students

21/02/2020 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEDT

ISANA is seeking students who want to learn about consumer protection in the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act.

ISANA: International Education Association, with funding from Study Melbourne, is undertaking a Consumer Protection and National Code Project to increase international students’ awareness of the ESOS Act, specifically the National Code 2018.  If ESOS is to be successful in providing consumer protection, the consumers (international students) need to understand the legislation and where to go if their provider (institution) has not met its ESOS obligations.

Student Participation…

Interested to know more? By looking at each National Code standard we want to gain a better understanding of what students should expect from their institution and we’ll explore the connection between an institution’s obligation and an international student’s visa conditions.

Students selected will form project teams to consider how to communicate this information effectively to international students in Victoria. Project teams will present their ideas to a group of interested stakeholders. Together we will decide which ideas progress to the development stage.

Why should you participate?

– Receive a $250 voucher and certificate!

– Gain a better understanding of your rights when studying in Australia

– Become aware of the services and support institutions are required to offer to international students

– Interact with like minded international students who want to make a difference and expand your network

– Share your knowledge, skills and great ideas

– Develop teamwork and presentation skills

– Be involved in a project that will improve the international student experience.

How to get involved:

  1. Register your interest including name, institution and country of citizenship ESOS4Students@gmail.com
  2. Attend the Introductory session Friday 21 February at Study Melbourne
