The ESOS for Students project, funded by Study Melbourne, aims to increase international students’ awareness of the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) legislative framework, specifically relating to the National Code 2018.

ESOS provides consumer protection for international students on a student visa, aims to enhance the quality of the student experience and protects the student visa program. However, international students have limited or no knowledge of ESOS and their rights and responsibilities.

A group of international students, with no prior knowledge of the National Code, participated in a series of workshops.  Project teams considered how the information acquired during the workshops could be communicated effectively to all international students at the relevant stage of their international student journey.

The outcome has been videos, fact sheets and posters, developed by the project group to achieve the goal of increasing awareness of the National Code and the rights and responsibilities of all international students studying in Australia.

These resources align with the international student journey and are being promoted through the platforms where students seek information.

The ESOS for Students Project Team consists of Danielle Hartridge and Molly Bonnefin.

International Students’ Rights

As an international student you are responsible for meeting your visa conditions and following Australian laws. There are many laws to protect you during your time in Australia and most of these laws also apply equally to Australian citizens, residents and other temporary visa holders.
